1. Check whether a visa is needed
British citizens can make business trips of up to 30 days visa-free until 31 December 2026. Staff with other nationalities, longer trips or trips into 2027 may need a China business visa.
2. Get the invitation letter right
It must show the traveller’s passport details, the purpose and dates of the trip, who pays, and the inviting company’s details, signature and stamp. Read our invitation letter guide.
3. Check passports early
At least six months’ validity after arrival and two blank visa pages. Renewals take time, so check before booking flights.
4. Book appointments in time
Every traveller usually attends a visa centre for fingerprints. Allow three to four weeks, and choose express if a trip comes up suddenly.
